Polish American Heritage Month

Every October, Polish Americans celebrate their heritage, traditions, and lasting contributions to the United States. The October date recalls the first Poles who arrived at Jamestown and honors Casimir Pulaski and Tadeusz Kościuszko, who helped secure American independence. This year, Columbia Heights Mayor Amáda Márquez Simula has officially proclaimed October 2026 Polish American Heritage Month. The proclamation recognizes the city’s long connection to Poland through its Sister Cities partnership with Łomianki, which began in 1989, and through the many PACIM members who help keep that bond strong. Join us this month in honoring the generations of Polish Americans who kept their identity alive while enriching American education, culture, business, science, and civic life.
