Literary Afternoon with Andi Kopek

On Sunday, February 25, the Polish American Cultural Institute of Minnesota (PACIM) hosted a captivating Literary Afternoon featuring Andi Kopek, who presented his new book of poetry titled “Shmehara.” The title itself is a fascinating blend of linguistic elements: the “sh” from Sanskrit’s “ikshama” (meaning “to look after”), the proto-Indo-European root “me” (derived from “s(mer)”, signifying “remember”), and “hara” from Sanskrit’s “dhara” (meaning “flow”).

During the event, Andi Kopek shared several of his evocative poems, accompanied by dynamic illustrations—short animated movies crafted by various collaborating artists. Each illustration was specially created to complement a specific poem. Kopek’s intention is to bring his poetic vision to life, allowing readers to immerse themselves in a visual journey.

As a meaningful gesture, Andi Kopek signed copies of his book for the audience. Notably, a portion of the proceeds from book sales will be donated to the Polish Center for International Aid Foundation, supporting psychological assistance for Ukrainian children affected by the ongoing war.
