1944 Warsaw US Airlift Memorial

On September 16, 2022, a monument dedicated to the Heroic Crew of the B-17G Airplane was unveiled in Łomianki, Poland, a sister city of Columbia Heights, MN.

During the Warsaw Uprising in September 1944, Allied forces dropped supplies to aid the fighters in Warsaw. On September 18, the American B17G Fortress “I’ll be seeing you” was shot down over Dziekanów Leśny, which is eight miles away from the capital. The crash resulted in the deaths of eight crew members, with two others taken as prisoners of war.

PACIM is involved in recreating the monument in Columbia Heights, in collaboration with the city of Columbia Heights, the Sister City Łomianki-Columbia Heights organization, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Chicago as a tribute to the American airmen who tragically lost their lives in the 1944 plane crash, as well as to the Polish soldiers and civilians who fought against the Nazis during the Warsaw Uprising.

We will keep you updated on the progress of the project.
