SUMMARY:Virual Programming: What Were They Reading?
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Karen Majewski\nPresident\, Polish American Historical Association (PAHA)\nAttend it on Zoom:  https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88265554551?pwd=tjGo9dnlZeb1qhsWfBdvpmzA1r90ZK.1&from=addon\n\nOur Polish Ancestors and the Written Word will dispel the myth that Polish immigrants were illiterate and uninterested in reading and writing. Focusing on the late 19th century through the 1930s\, we will look at the wide variety of reading material being created and consumed in the Polish American community\, including religious materials\, newspapers\, and literature written in Poland and the United States\, including translations and original works. We will pay special attention to the publishing companies that served the Polish American community and to the writing produced by the immigrants themselves chronicling and interpreting their experiences in the United States.
