SUMMARY:An Evening with Polish Cinema – Two Sisters
DESCRIPTION:PACIM is proud to present an exclusive screening of Dwie Siostry (Two Sisters)\, the newest film from acclaimed Polish director Łukasz Karwowski. This moving drama follows two sisters who\, after years of separation\, are drawn back together to face long-hidden family secrets. Blending personal conflict with universal themes of memory\, reconciliation\, and identity\, the film offers a gripping glimpse into the depth and artistry of contemporary Polish cinema. \nTwo half-sisters\, who have been in conflict for years\, set off to Ukraine to pick up their seriously injured father. They travel by car\, then by train\, in the end – on foot. The world of war\, bombarded houses and burnt down tanks is gradually revealed in front of their very eyes. Near Kharkiv they cross the frontline unawares and enter Russian-occupied territory. Will they manage to find their father? Is there a place for forgiveness and love in a world of war? What will this journey bring about?—Gdynia Film Festival \nThe screening will be followed by an open discussion\, providing an opportunity to share impressions and reflect on the film’s themes together. The movie will be presented with English subtitles. \nAdmission $10\, sold at the time of the show. \n \n \n  \nThe event is co-funded by the Polonia funds of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Chicago. \n  \nDwie siostry (2024) © Canal+\, Polski Instytut Sztuki Filmowej\, Zoom Media

SUMMARY:The True Story of Tamara de Lempicka & the Art of Survival
DESCRIPTION:Step into the glamour of the art-deco era at the Minneapolis Institute of Art with a special screening of The True Story of Tamara de Lempicka. This dazzling documentary celebrates the life and legacy of the iconic Polish-born artist whose bold vision and style continue to inspire. Immediately after the film\, stay for a special conversation with Carson Kreitzer\, Broadway playwright of Lempicka. The evening continues with a dessert reception and bubbly toast in MIA’s stunning rotunda. \nWith her bold lines\, luminous color\, and unapologetic modernity\, Tamara de Lempicka stormed 1920s Paris and became the reigning queen of Art Deco. Beloved by collectors from Barbra Streisand to Madonna\, and immortalized on Broadway\, Lempicka’s art—and her life—were a dazzling rebellion. Julie Rubio’s riveting documentary\, the first feature-length portrait of this extraordinary Polish Jewish painter\, captures her meteoric rise\, her flight to the U.S. as fascism swept Europe\, and her fearless embrace of life as an immigrant\, an artist\, and a bisexual woman ahead of her time. Narrated by Anjelica Huston\, the film unveils newly unearthed treasures—including 8mm home movies—and reveals the lasting aesthetic power and political resonance of her work. Join us for this tribute to an icon who shattered conventions and painted her way into immortality. \nPOST-SCREENING CONVERSATION FEATURING \nCarson Kreitzer \nPlaywright\, Lempicka \nCarson Kreitzer is a playwright\, lyricist\, and librettist\, recipient of Guggenheim\, MacDowell\, and McKnight Fellowships and the Jonathan Larson Grant.
