As part of our Artist Exchange Program, the Polish American Cultural Institute of Minnesota is co-sponsoring Michał Staszczak from Wroclaw, who will be a guest artist at the 50th Anniversary Iron Pour at the University of Minnesota.
Michał Staszczak (born in 1979 in Wrocław, Poland) studied sculpture at the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. At present he is a lecturer at the same academy. He leads the Metal Casting Studio there and is the director of the Department of Sculptural Techniques. In 2012, he received a PhD degree in fine arts. Staszczak builds furnaces and casts his sculptures in aluminium, bronze or iron. He leads mould making workshops and metal pours. He was one of the founders of the Festival of High Temperatures, which consists of workshops, practical demonstrations, lectures and presentations in three art disciplines: cast metal, ceramics and glass. The event has been taking place since 2007 and is designed for professional artists, as well as for the public. Staszczak has been the curator of the cast metal section since the beginning of the festival and the director of the event since 2015. He has taken part in numerous exhibitions and his works are in public and private collections. In May 2018, he participated in the 8th International Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art in Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA.
