History

PolAm was founded in 1979 as an independent publication by Czeslaw S. Rog, a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army as a medic and translator in England. A lifelong resident of Minneapolis, Rog saw a communication need to connect multiple generations of Polish Americans at the time of the growth of the Solidarity movement in Poland.

Rog was both a co-founder of the Polish-American Cultural Institute of Minnesota and actively involved in the American Council for Polish Culture (ACPC). In 2003, ACPC recognized Rog with an Outstanding Service award to Polonia for his work building PolAm as a trusted news resource.
